The University of Texas at Austin

Once you've accepted admission to UT Austin, we want to give you a big Texas welcome at one of our new student orientation sessions. After all, UT is a big place, and we want to make sure you feel at home and prepared before you arrive in the fall.

At orientation, you'll become familiar with the Forty Acres, spend time with an academic adviser, meet other students, register for classes, stay in an on-campus dorm and much more.

Before you can register for Orientation

  • You must have been admitted to your college or school since some majors are not represented at some orientation sessions (explore your major options in Wayfinder);
  • Satisfied your enrollment deposit (either by paying the deposit or, if your deposit is deferred, by indicating that you intend to enroll); and
  • Completed a series of online pre-orientation modules that contain information essential to your transition to the university (available late spring).

Register for Orientation

Students admitted to the fall semester are required to attend an orientation session. Visit the orientation website to register for one of our summer sessions.

Orientation sessions are available to students based on the term or semester in which they enroll at the university. Students admitted to the fall semester are required to select from several orientation sessions offered each summer and fall.

It's important to note that summer orientation sessions are designed to meet the needs of two distinct groups of students, therefore freshmen are not allowed to attend transfer orientation sessions and transfer students are not allowed to attend freshmen orientation sessions.
