The University of Texas at Austin

Once you begin your freshman year, the university you’re attending will let UT Austin know that you’ve enrolled. During your freshman year, we’ll contact you three times with information about the process and to make sure that we have accurate information about you and your goals.

Late Fall: Initial Contact

Toward the end of the 2009 fall semester (mid-November), we’ll contact you by mail and e-mail (if we have it) and ask you to go online to do two things:

  • Review and update your contact information (if it has changed) and
  • Tell us which major you’d like at UT Austin

If you select Undergraduate Studies, Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences as your major, you won’t have to do anything else as these majors are guaranteed for 2009–2010 CAP participants who successfully complete the program.

If, however, you decide that you’d like to try for admission to another major at UT Austin other than Undergraduate Studies, Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences, you’ll have to submit additional items by March 1, 2010; we’ll give you more details when we contact you in the fall.

If you decide to try for admission to a major outside of Undergraduate Studies, Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences, your guaranteed admission to UT Austin (in Undergraduate Studies, Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences) will not be affected.

April: Spring Reminder

After spring break, we’ll contact you again by mail and remind you to send us an official transcript of the work you completed to fulfill your CAP requirements by June 1, 2010. There really isn’t anything you’ll have to do at this time; we’ll just be touching base to remind you to send us your transcript as soon as possible after you complete your spring semester.

June: Official Admission Decision

Once we receive your official transcript and verify that you completed the CAP requirements, we’ll notify you of your admission by mail and online through your Application Status page (UT EID and password required). If you request admission to a major other than Undergraduate Studies, Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences, it may be several weeks before we have a decision about the major to which you’ll be admitted.

Along with your admission decision we’ll deliver information to you about other steps you may need to take to complete your transfer to UT Austin. Information about orientation, housing, and financial aid, for example, will be available to you as it is to all non-CAP transfer students.
