Events for Families, Students & Counselors

Many events we sponsor are designed to provide information to families, students, and counselors.

Day Visits: Each UT admissions counselor makes trips to the areas he or she works with to visit with students and counselors. Typically, our counselors will ask you to schedule a room (libraries, classrooms, or meeting rooms work well) for them to make a presentation to all your students interested in UT Austin. In advance of the visit, we'll send you a list of students we'd like you to invite.

Fall visits are usually for all students; winter visits are for seniors to turn in parts of their applications; and spring visits are for admitted seniors and applying juniors.

Longhorn Saturdays: High school seniors and their parents can spend a Saturday at UT learning what our campus has to offer them. They hear from current UT students, admissions, housing and financial aid representatives, and the colleges and majors. After an event-packed morning, students and parents can spend time touring the campus, exploring residence halls, and seeing the city of Austin at their leisure.

Rise & Shine/Explore UT: Like a Longhorn Saturday, Rise & Shine brings prospective students and families to campus to learn more about admission to the university. Rise & Shine is just for juniors and is part of our campus-wide open house, Explore UT (“the biggest open house in Texas”).

Group Visits to Campus: Any group of 10 or more college-bound high school students (plus you, parents, or chaperones) can come to campus for a special group visit. The Freshman Admissions Center will coordinate an admissions information session, student-led tour, student panel and more for your day on campus. Group visits are available on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.; give us a call at 512-475-7440 to schedule yours.

Individual Campus Visits: Any student, family, or counselor can plan to visit UT Austin on his or her own schedule. Just pick a weekday, register to let us know you’re coming, and travel to campus to attend an admissions information session, a campus tour, a residence hall tour, and even special sessions with a college, school, or honors program.

Application Roundups: Every January, our admissions counselors head out to the far corners of Texas to round up last-minute application items. We’ll mail you a flyer advertising the Application Roundup in your area.

College Days/Nights: We’re happy to send UT admissions counselors to both TACRAO-sponsored and non-TACRAO college fairs whenever we can. If you want a counselor at your daytime or evening college fair, send us a letter with all the information and we'll let you know if we can make it.
