Coordinated Admission Program Universities University of Texas-Pan American
About UT Pan American
The University of Texas-Pan American is located in the sunny, semitropical Rio Grande Valley city of Edinburg which is less than 20 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border and 70 miles west of the popular South Padre Island resort area. As the premier higher education institution in South Texas, UTPA serves one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States. More than 86 percent of UT Pan American’s 17,337 students are Hispanic, giving the university the largest number of Hispanic students in the nation. Many of the students represent the first generation of their families to go to college, and it is not uncommon for students, upon graduation, to triple their earning power compared to their parents.
The university is enriched by its unique cultural diversity—even its name reflects a special commitment to an area that is distinctly multicultural. The fifth-largest component in The University of Texas System and the tenth-largest public university in Texas, UTPA currently offers 54 bachelor’s degrees, 50 master’s degrees, two doctoral degrees, and one cooperative doctoral degree.
The University of Texas-Pan American ranks second in the nation in the number of bachelor’s degrees, fifth in the number of master’s degrees and 75th in the number of doctoral degrees awarded to Hispanics.
Financial Aid
Financial need is determined once you submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may pick up a paper FAFSA from your high school guidance counselor or you may request that an application be mailed to your home by calling 1-800-433-3243. If you haven't done so already, you may file an application electronically on the FAFSA web site or visit the UTPA Student Financial Services site for step-by-step instructions for completing the FAFSA.
If you applied for financial aid for UT Austin (by completing the FAFSA) but plan to attend UTPA as part of the Coordinated Admission Program, you must make certain that UT Pan Am is authorized to receive your FAFSA information. The UTPA school code is 003599.
If you did not originally designate UTPA to receive your information, you can make the correction to your FAFSA in one of several ways:
Options for Correcting Your FAFSA
Paper Student Aid Report (SAR)
If you have your paper SAR, add UT Pan American’s FAFSA school code (003599) in Step 6 of the FAFSA, sign the report and return it to the address indicated for corrections.
Phone Correction
Call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243. You will need the Data Release Number (DRN) printed on your SAR to make the correction by phone.
Online
Visit the FAFSA on the Web and select the Add or Delete a School Code link. You will need a Federal Student Aid PIN to access and update your FAFSA information online. If you don't know your PIN, visit the Federal Student Aid PIN site for help.
On-Campus Housing
UTPA is proud to celebrate the addition of Unity Hall, the newest residence hall to the UTPA community. The Office of Residence Life has many opportunities available for living on campus that provide not only a place to live but the ultimate university experience.

TSI Information
Under the Texas Success Initiative (TSI), undergraduate students entering Texas public institutions of higher education must be assessed for readiness to enroll in freshman-level academic coursework. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has approved the following four testing instruments to determine students’ readiness to enroll in college level courses:
- Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA)
- Accuplacer
- Compass
- Asset
A student needs to select and take only one of the above assessments to meet the requirements of TSI. There are a number of ways to be exempt from taking one of the TSI tests.
