Financial Aid
Financial need is determined once you submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may pick up a paper FAFSA from your high school guidance counselor or you may request that an application be mailed to your home by calling 1-800-433-3243. If you haven't done so already, you may file an application electronically on the FAFSA web site.
If you applied for financial aid for UT Austin (by completing the FAFSA) but plan to attend UT Tyler as part of the Coordinated Admission Program, you must make certain that UT Tyler is authorized to receive your FAFSA information.
If you did not originally designate UT Tyler to receive your information, you can make the correction to your FAFSA in one of several ways:
Options for Correcting Your FAFSA
Paper Student Aid Report (SAR)
If you have your paper SAR, add UT Tyler’s FAFSA school code (011163) in Step 6 of the FAFSA, sign the report and return it to the address indicated for corrections.
Phone Correction
Call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243. You will need the Data Release Number (DRN) printed on your SAR to make the correction by phone.
Online
Visit the FAFSA on the Web and select the Add or Delete a School Code link. You will need a Federal Student Aid PIN to access and update your FAFSA information online. If you don't know your PIN, visit the Federal Student Aid PIN site for help.
Once you add the UT Tyler school code to your FAFSA information and submit your correction, the financial aid office at UT Tyler will be able to access your family financial information and begin reviewing your aid application. If UT Tyler needs additional information, the financial aid office will contact you directly.
On-Campus Housing
Students who have completed fewer than 30 credit hours at any junior college or university, including UT Tyler, are required to live on campus if facilities are available. (AP credit or credit-by-exam tests do not count towards the 30 credit hour total.)
Students who are required to live on campus may reside in University Pines, Patriot Village or Ornelas Hall. These are the only facilities that satisfy the residency requirement.
Exceptions may be made for students who meet the approved waiver requirement(s). A waiver request form may be obtained from the Department of Residence Life.

A waiver will be granted if you meet any one of the following conditions:
- Live within 50 miles of Tyler with a parent or legal guardian
- Are married
- Are 21 or over or will be before the 12th class day
- Have a medical disability that cannot be accommodated on campus
- Have custody of a child and can provide the Housing Department with an original birth certificate of the child or custody documentation
- Enrolled for eight or fewer semester credit hours during the fall and/or spring semesters
- who meet one of the exemptions listed above and who wish to live off campus must submit a request for a waiver to the policy in writing to the Residence Life office. The Residence Life office must approve the waiver, even if it is a waiver for which the student automatically qualifies.
Even if you applied for on-campus housing at UT Austin, you will need to apply for housing at UT Tyler by completing the General Housing Application (pdf). Any deposits paid to UT Austin will not be transferable to UT Tyler. The university currently has available housing for the fall of 2008. There is no deadline for submitting the General Housing Application, but some floor plans fill quickly, so please apply as soon as possible in order to secure your housing preference. Housing applications are processed on a date-received basis.

Placement Testing
UT Tyler must receive your THEA scores or an accepted alternative test score in order for you to attend orientation and register for classes at the university. If you're exempt from the THEA test based on ACT, SAT or TAKS scores, those scores must be submitted to UT Tyler's Office of Admissions.
If you receive a failing score in any section of the THEA test, you will be required to enroll in developmental course work in the area of deficiency during your freshman year at UT Tyler. Developmental courses will not count toward the 30 credit hours that are required to successfully complete the Coordinated Admission Program.
Math Policy
Placement in a math course during your freshman year is based on SAT, ACT, THEA or local test scores taken prior to entering UT Tyler. You may be required to enroll in a developmental course if THEA scores are not deemed sufficient for college level math. The Advising Center will help determine which courses you'll need to take.

Many students are interested to find out what courses they can take during their freshman year at UT Tyler. Review the approved UT Tyler course listings to find out what courses are available. If you are eligible to attend UT Tyler as part of CAP and you choose to attend the university, UT Tyler will contact you after you submit your online CAP agreement with information about orientation and class registration. Be sure to consult an academic advisor before making final decisions about the courses you take.
