Requirements and restrictions for Jackson School of Geosciences
In addition to submitting a complete application for admission, freshman applicants to the Jackson School of Geosciences should also review the following information regarding special application requirements.
- Fall Admission Only: First-time freshmen must begin their studies in the fall semester. Applications are not accepted for the summer or spring semester.
- Math Preparation: A significant indicator of the potential for success in the study of geosciences is the level of math courses taken in high school. All Geosciences degrees require completion of a college-level calculus course. To help them prepare for college, prospective students considering a major in the Jackson School of Geosciences should take at least four years of math, preferably ending with calculus during high school.
- Admission as undeclared students: All students entering the Jackson School will be admitted as J00100 – Undeclared students and will remain so until they are ready to take college-level calculus.
