Admission to Summer Freshman Class
Each year, hundreds of freshman applicants who could not be admitted to the fall semester because of limited space are admitted to the university as members of the Summer Freshman Class (SFC).
Some Summer Freshman Class students are disappointed to learn that they weren’t admitted to the fall. But spending a summer on campus can ease the transition to college life and give students an advantage when the freshman class arrives in the fall. Almost all Summer Freshman Class students report a highly positive summer experience.

Summer Freshman Class Details
- The Summer Freshman Class session begins in mid-June and runs through mid-August.
- SFC students are regularly-admitted students who must begin their studies in the summer session (even if they originally applied for fall admission).
- The classes SFC students take are offered in a ten-week format; these courses closely mirror the format of the fall or spring semester. SFC students take eight to ten hours of classes.
Accepting Your Admission
Students admitted to the Summer Freshman Class should visit the After-Admission section of Be a Longhorn to learn how to pay their $200 enrollment deposit by May 1 and take care of other processes like Summer Orientation and on-campus housing.
On-Campus Housing
Students admitted to the Summer Freshman Class are guaranteed summer on-campus housing if they apply for housing by April 15. Fall housing will be offered based on space availability and the date the housing application is submitted. If a student already applied to live on campus this fall and is admitted to the Summer Freshman Class, an additional application for summer housing will need to be submitted.
