Entrance and English language Testing
If you have fewer than 24 transferable semester hours of post-secondary study completed by the recommended application date, you must submit official scores from the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the ACT Assessment (ACT). If you have more than 24 semester hours of transferable credit, you are not required to submit the SAT or ACT.
TOEFL or IELTS
When applying for admission, submit an official score from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the Academic Examination of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Although the Graduate and International Admissions Center accepts either the TOEFL or IELTS, the TOEFL iBT is preferred because of the intergrative nature of the four skills tested and the facility with which scores are transmitted.
There is no institutional code for the IELTS examination. To fulfill your requirement for English language testing with scores from the IELTS, have your official scores sent to UT Austin at the following address:
University of Texas at Austin
GIAC, International Undergraduate Admissions
P.O. Box 7306
Austin, TX 78713-7306

Official Score Reports
Only test scores sent to UT Austin directly from the testing agency are considered official. You should take the tests well in advance of the appropriate application deadline to insure that scores will arrive on time. Copies of test scores are not considered official, but they may help the university locate your official test scores and are therefore useful when the application is processed.
