The University of Texas at Austin’s response to Hurricane Katrina

A total of 319 undergraduate students affected by Hurricane Katrina are now attending classes at The University of Texas at Austin. They are joined by 47 graduate students, 75 law students, about 25 exchange students, and one pharmacy student who are also studying on campus this semester. The deadline for eligible students to enroll in UT Austin as an alternative to their original plans was Friday, September 9.

The staff of the Office of Admissions is pleased to have been able to offer students most affected by this tragedy options that will allow them to continue their studies during the fall semester. We join our colleagues in offices across campus, across the State of Texas, and across the country in expressing a Texas-sized “You’re welcome” in response to the countless “Thank you” messages we’ve received from the families that we were able to assist.

Our thoughts and good wishes are with our neighbors along the Gulf Coast as they struggle to put their lives and their campuses back together.
