Q: What's your favorite UT fact?
A: The University of Texas at Austin student body commissioned a sculpture to recognize Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s contribution to civil rights.
In 1995 (my sophomore year at UT Austin), a student referendum was passed that called for a $1 per student, per semester, fee for four years to fund the sculpture of MLK which was eventually unveiled on the East Mall of campus in 1999.
The sculpture is one of only two on university campuses in the country. The other statue is at Morehouse College...Dr. King's alma mater.
Q: Your favorite place on campus?
A: The West Mall -- not only because it is a beautiful area near the Tower, but also because this is home to the free speech area, where our student organizations can set up tables with information...the West Mall is where you can see the true energy, dedication, and involvement of the students at our university.
Q: What do you enjoy about admissions counseling?
A: I find great professional and personal fulfillment not only in helping students learn more about the opportunities awaiting them at UT Austin, but also in helping students understand the importance of obtaining a higher education.
I make it a commitment to serve as a resource as students find their way to the higher education opportunity that best fits them.
