Q:
Where are you from?
A:
I was born in San Antonio, Texas. When I was ten months old, my family moved to Acapulco, Mexico. I grew up in a beautiful city on the beach! When I was 16 years old, I came back to Texas to finish high school at Douglas MacArthur High School in San Antonio.

Q:
What did you study in college?
A:
I have a bachelor's degree in psychology from Texas Wesleyan University. I did not change majors during college, but many of my friends did. If you do decide to change majors, talk to your academic advisor first and visit UT’s Career Exploration Center. It's okay to change majors. The average college student changes majors 3-5 times.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus?
A:
There are so many areas of campus that are beautiful; I have a lot of favorite places. When I’m in need of some quiet time I like to visit the Perry-Castañeda Library. It’s a great place to study or relax. I also like to sit by the Turtle Pond on a nice day or walk through the West Mall. My absolute favorite place is Gregory Gymnasium. Whether you like to exercise or not, this is a fantastic facility. You can use the treadmills, use some weights or run on the indoor track. If you like to swim, hang out in the Gregory Gym Aquatic Complex. It has a heated outdoor lap pool and leisure pool.

Q:
What are some of your favorite things to do in Austin?
A:
I definitely enjoy going to the Barton Springs Pool, especially during summer time! For a small fee you can have a picnic or a special get together, or go swimming with family and friends. This pool is spring fed so the water stays at 68 degrees all year.

Q:
What is your favorite UT Austin fact?
A:
I love the history behind Bevo. Bevo is one of just a handful of live mascots still used by universities. UT has had 14 longhorns in its history. Bevo XIV, the current longhorn used at games and events, was born April 8, 2002 and appeared at his first football game in 2004. He lives with Mr. and Mrs. John Baker on a ranch about an hour from Austin. Bevo travels to every football game, and he can also make appearance at weddings and other special events.

Q: What parts of admissions counseling do you enjoy the most?
A:
I enjoy meeting my students! I have worked in college admissions for three years, and I absolutely love it. I always try to get to know and help my students as much as I can throughout the admission process.

Advice for Prospective Students

  • Be patient. Sometimes the college admission process is overwhelming. There are a lot of deadlines and applications; you don’t want to miss anything. Be organized and patient!
  • Listen to your heart. When you get ready to make your final decision about where you are going to attend college, listen to your heart and make sure the school is the right fit for you.
