Meet Brittany

Why Is UT Perfect?
Because of the internships and job opportunities. There are several college fairs every semester that are wonderful resources. I also like that the Capitol is practically down the road from the University. There are always internships available at the Capitol that makes for a good experience. I also chose UT because it is in the downtown area. I like the feel of a big city, so UT was perfect.
Great UT Resources
The UT web site has a great database for the organizations that are offered on campus. We have over 1,000 organizations to choose from so finding something I didn’t like was difficult. I visited the campus a couple of times and this allowed me to get a feeling for what it would be like being away from home. As a transfer student, the transfer admissions office was very helpful in the application process.
Brittany's tips
Studying
Don’t wait until the last minute. This is probably a cliché but it is the best advice I’ve taken so far. Some semesters you will find that your tests fall on the same week and sometimes on the same day, so waiting until the last minute is very stressful. Studying a week in advance gives you the opportunity to memorize and learn the material needed for an examination.
Parking and transportation around campus
A vehicle is not necessary because the buses go pretty much everywhere you would need to go in Austin. UT has free bus transportation for students. Since parking can sometimes be a hassle, the buses are great. Also, there are bike racks all over campus so biking to class is a great source of transportation as well.
Live Closer to Campus
I lived in a private dormitory called The Castilian for my first two years and now I live in a West Campus apartment. I highly recommend staying in an on campus dormitory your first year because it allows students to be closer to classes and it gives you the opportunity to have a great first year college experience. The social environment of the dormitories is probably what I like best about them. The friends I’ve made while living in The Castilian are my closest friends today. The biggest difference between an on campus dormitory and private dormitory are the food plans. Both types of dorms are excellent ways of getting a first year college experience.
Staying in Texas
After I graduate I plan on working for one to two years and then applying to law school. I will most likely stay in the state of Texas for law school but I do want to take a break for a bit and pay off student loans. I’m looking forward to working a 40 hour a week job and not having to stay up late studying, but I am also looking forward to attending law school in a few years because law classes are very intriguing to me.
More about Brittany
Favorites
- Class: Natural Law Theory. I didn’t know a lot about the subject; however, after taking the class, it not only helped me within the subject of philosophy, but also in my everyday decisions.
- Professor: Dr. J. Budziszewski because he lectures very well and explains the subject rather clearly for the students who aren’t familiar with the subject.
- Study locations on campus: The PCL and The Texas Union. The reason I like the PCL is because it has the best of both worlds. It has quiet and loud floors. The reason I like The Texas Union is because it is closer to where I live and it also has really comfortable study rooms.
- Place to eat near campus: Chipotle
- Book: A Million Little Pieces by James Frey
- Movie: Into the Wild
What makes UT feel like home
All the close friends I’ve made since I’ve arrived. UT has become a home away from home and the friends I’ve made have become my family.
What I love about Austin
I love the free concerts and live music downtown. Concerts can be pretty pricey but it seems like Austin always has free concerts available to the public, especially during South by Southwest.
