The University of Texas at Austin

Seems Big and Intimidating

UT seems big and intimidating at first, but it becomes more like home than your actual home! I like being able to see different people all the time, it is such a great experience.

Not That Big

The biggest misconception I had about UT was that it was this huge university that I would never adjust to. I was so scared, but after the first month, it just got easier and easier and now my view is that it isn't even that big. It seems really complicated but once you get used to it, it's not a big deal!

Sandy's tips

Studying

Time management and organization are keys to success at studying! I realized this more my second semester of college. You basically have to just readjust and be more independent because it is nothing like high school.

Off campus dorms

I lived in The Castilian (a private dorm) for two years and now I am living at The Quarters! The Castilian was such a good experience because it is a private "off campus" dorm, and the reason I say "off campus" is because it is literally across the street. I met all of my closest friends there and there were many foreign exchange students that I also got to live with for a few semesters.

Making friends

Do not be shy or nervous; chances are that everyone else is in the same position as you, so just be outgoing.

What to wear and not wear

Wear comfortable shoes for sure; there is a lot of walking. I made the mistake of wearing heels a few times and it is not comfortable in any way.

Parking around campus

Parking is ridiculous; I just do not even try!

My First Two Years

I have made a lot of new friends, and I keep meeting new people. They have become my closest friends, and it has made my first two years at UT AMAZING!

Travel the World

I want to travel the world and apply my law skills! I have expectations that it will be tough, but I can pull through. I am really looking forward to being able to travel and work at the same time because I love traveling.

Changing Lives

UT is awesome, and it really is true that what starts here changes the world, or at least it changes people's lives for the better. I cannot see myself going to any other university; this one is definitely the one for me.

Favorite Experience

I loved the Hex Rally. I went with a group of my friends and I felt really at home. I love the tradition.
