Meet Wintress

Put Your Mark on the World
The University of Texas at Austin is the best place to be if you would like to put your mark on the world and meet extraordinary individuals like yourself. I chose UT because it was close to home, but far enough to have my own life and the fact that academia is amazing here. I love the McCombs School of Business and everything about the people at UT. I just love this campus. Just like our motto says, “What starts here changes the world.”
Business in the House
[During my first year I was in the] Business in the House Residential FIG. It was a really great experience because I took classes with the people that I lived fairly close to. It was amazing and I highly recommend the FIG program to all students.
What I Wish I Knew as a Prospective Student
I wish that someone would have explained to me more about Student Government. I have found that I really enjoy it and I wish I would have known about it my freshman year.

Impacting the Business World
I chose my major and the McCombs School of Business because it is top in the nation and I believe that I could make a great impact in the business world. I actually chose the McCombs School of Business because of its welcoming and competitive environment. My senior year in high school I participated in the McCombs Future Executive Academy Marketing Challenge. My team won, and that's when I realized that a career in marketing was for me.
Wintress’ advice on…
Living on campus
I lived in Whitis Court, which is the residence hall for the Residential FIG. What I loved about Whitis was that everyone knew each other and we were a family.
I would strongly encourage students to live on campus their freshman and sophomore years; it’s better for your grades.
Parking around campus
Don’t bring a car if you are going to live on campus; it’s a lot cheaper to not have a car.
Balancing studying, friends, work, & family
School should be number one; it is the reason why we are here. Make sure to balance your time wisely with work, studying, friends, and family. Your grades should be your first priority.
Being homesick
I was never homesick because two of my best friends attend UT as well. I am also a very outgoing and involved person; therefore, the people that are in my organizations have become my small family away from home.
Loving & Learning
I have grown to love Ms. Brenda Burt, who is the faculty adviser for Black Student Alliance, an organization that I am a part of. She is extremely helpful with every aspect of my college life; from academics to my social life, she is always there to give me advice.
My participation in Black Student Alliance helped me receive an internship with the Sherwin-Williams Company! I learned so much about the company and paint that I have become sort of an expert in paint and home decorating.
Honored to Represent
My favorite experience at UT has been the opportunity to work for the Freshman Admissions Center. I enjoy coming in contact with prospective students because I feel honored to represent the University. I love telling students about UT and helping them choose the University as their place to receive higher education.

Teach for America
When I graduate, I want to participate in Teach for America and then after that I would like to go to graduate school and pursue a Higher Education degree. I’m looking forward to learning more about myself and how I can help others in their personal endeavors.
Thinking about attending UT Austin?
Really think about your future plans and all of the opportunities that the University has to offer.

- Study location on campus: Life Science Library in the Main Building. This place is amazing to study, it is really quiet, has lots of comfy chairs and couches to study on and lots of people don’t know about it.
- Place to eat on campus: Chipotle, because it is my Tex-Mex fix on campus; however, it does put a dent in my pocket but the taste is worth it.

Best unexpected thing is…
The close group of friends that I have found. My friends are amazing. We study together, we eat together, we go out together, and we go to religious services together.
