Visiting the UT Austin campus is really the best way to know if it’s right for you.

We’d love to have you (and your family) on campus for a day of activities tailored to your interests. Just pick a weekday and register for your visit; visits are held in the Freshman Admissions Center in John Hargis Hall (JHH).

Campus Visit Options

For Prospective Freshmen (Currently accepting reservations through December)

A UT Austin campus visit session consists of all three of the following activities.

  • Freshman Admissions Information Session: We provide separate information sessions for admitted students and prospective students.

    - Info sessions for admitted students: An admissions counselor will answer your questions and discuss next steps for admitted students including paying the enrollment deposit, summer orientation, on-campus housing, placement testing, completing the financial aid process, and more!
    - Info sessions for prospective students: An admissions counselor will give students the inside scoop on UT Austin and answer questions about the university, why students choose UT Austin, admissions requirements, the application process, on-campus housing, honors programs,  financial aid, testing, and other important issues for prospective students and their families.
  • Student Q&A: Current UT Austin students will answer questions about what life is really like on the Forty Acres and how to succeed in college. Come prepared with questions.
  • Campus Walking Tour: Student-guided walking tours of campus for prospective students and families begin at the Freshman Admissions Center (John Hargis Hall). Given from the unique perspective of a current student, this is one of the best ways to get a feel for campus. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes; visitors will walk about one mile on the tour.

The admissions information session and student Q&A are held in the Freshman Admissions Center in John Hargis Hall (JHH). The campus walking tour begins at the Freshman Admissions Center and ends on campus. The entire campus visit session lasts approximately two hours and fifteen minutes.

Prospective students or members of their family who require special mobility assistance should contact the Freshman Admissions Center at 512-475-7439 after registering for a campus visit online.

College, Schools and Program Info Sessions for Prospective Freshmen

Some colleges, schools and programs (like honors programs) offer information sessions, the chance to sit in on classes, and building tours for prospective students and their families. As most of these sessions are not offered each day, you may want to choose a scheduled academic session and plan the rest of your day on campus around that activity.

You’ll be able to sign up for most of these information sessions when you register online for a campus visit. Some sessions and meetings require individual appointments.

If you don't see a session listed below for a college or major you're interested, check with the individual department(s) to find out if they offer special sessions. You may also call the Freshman Admissions Center at 512-475-7440 for more information.

For Prospective Transfer Students

If you're a prospective transfer student and are interested in visiting campus, you should not register for a campus visit. Transfer admissions counselors meet with prospective transfer students and their families on a walk-in basis in the Office of Admissions (Main Building, Room 7) Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Student-led walking tours of campus are offered to prospective transfer students and other visitors at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday-Friday (except on official university holidays) and on Saturdays at 2 p.m. During the months of May and December, only one tour is offered at 2 p.m. each day Monday-Saturday. No tours will be offered November 26-29 and December 22-January 3. The university will be closed.

The tours for prospective transfer students leave from the General Information kiosk on the ground floor of the Main Building (the UT Tower).

To communicate by phone or e-mail with a transfer admissions counselor, visit the Transfer Assistance page.
