Requirements and restrictions for the School of Architecture

In addition to submitting a complete application for admission, transfer applicants to the School of Architecture should also review the following information regarding special application requirements and admission restrictions.

  • Fall-only enrollment: The School of Architecture admits transfer students for fall semester enrollment only.
  • Transfer from architecture/interior design programs: To be considered for admission to the School of Architecture, transfer applicants must submit transfer credit from architecture or interior design programs.
  • 30 hours by the deadline: Transfer students seeking admission to Architecture must have completed 30 hours of transferable credit by the fall application deadline of March 1.
  • Essay D: Applicants must also submit Essay D (on the ApplyTexas Application) (may substitute for Essay A).

Required Portfolio and Letters of Recommendation

Transfer students applying to either the architecture or interior design major must submit two letters of recommendation and a portfolio of work demonstrating their visual and spatial abilities.

Details about the portfolio

Applicants are required to submit a printed portfolio documenting their design work. Portfolios must be no larger than 9" x 12" and contain no more than 20 double-sided pages. (Work may be shown on both sides of the page.) Evidence showing an applicant’s original design work, spatial ability, and experience with hand drawing and model-making is required.

Portfolios will be returned only if the applicant includes an appropriately-sized, posted-paid, self-addressed envelope.

Letters of recommendation and the portfolio must be received by March 1 and mailed to:
