Transfer applicants and Automatic Transfer Admission
Some students who graduate from Texas high schools qualify for automatic transfer admission to UT Austin. To qualify for automatic admission as a transfer applicant, you must:
- Qualify for automatic freshman admission to a Texas university based on Texas law when you graduate from high school.
- Enroll in a Texas community/junior college after you graduate from high school.
- Complete the core curriculum at a Texas public junior college or other Texas public or private lower-division institution of higher education.
- Earn a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 on a four-point scale (or the equivalent).
- Apply for transfer admission no later than four academic years following the year in which you graduate from high school.
Are you eligible for automatic transfer admission?
To be considered for automatic transfer admission, you must meet all the requirements listed above and submit the items listed below in the format indicated by the application deadline. If you do not submit all of the automatic transfer requirements but you do complete your application for transfer admission, you will be considered for admission based on the university's review process.

How to Request Consideration for Automatic Admission
If you qualify for and wish to be considered for automatic transfer admission, you should check the box on your ApplyTexas transfer application that will indiciate that you believe you qualify for automatic admission as a transfer applicant based on Texas law. In addition, you must submit:
- A complete application for transfer admission by the application deadline and
- The Automatic Transfer Admission Requirements listed below by the application deadline.
AUTOMATIC TRANSFER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- A completed copy of the Automatic Transfer Admission form (required starting with applicants to 2013 summer/fall);
- An official high school transcript that indicates your class rank at the time you graduated from high school; and
- An official college transcript that indicates that you have completed the core curriculum.
The Office of Admissions will use the items you submit, especially your official high school and college transcripts, to determine if you meet the requirements for automatic transfer admission. Transfer applicants who qualify for automatic admission to UT Austin are eligible for admission to majors in the School of Undergraduate Studies, the College of Liberal Arts or the College of Natural Sciences.
Automatic admission for transfer applicants is based on SB 175, which was passed by the 81st Texas Legislature. This admission option is available only for students who graduated from high school in 2008 and after.
