Applying for Honors Programs

In most cases, the process of applying for an honors program is separate from that of applying for admission. The three honors programs available to incoming transfer students are connected to the area of study the student is pursuing. As a result, applicants who are interested in pursuing a double major may apply for honors programs in as many majors as they plan to pursue.

Business Honors Program

Deadline: May 1

Incoming transfer students who will be sophomores can apply for the Business Honors Program. Learn about applying and complete the online Sophomore Business Honors Application. Applicants are required to submit their complete BHP application, including an essay, resume, and two letters of recommendation, by May 1. All BHP applicants are required to interview with the program.

Dean’s Scholars Program in Natural Sciences

Deadline: June 15 (for Fall); January 5 (for Spring)

Transfer students can visit the Dean’s Scholars website to learn more about the program, including how to apply, by the appropriate deadline. Dean’s Scholars requires its own application and university transcript(s) (submitted separately from your transcripts for admission), two Faculty References, and an essay on topic F.

Plan II Honors Program

Transfer admission temporarily suspended for Fall 2007 and Spring 2008

Transfer students who will be sophomores (and some students who will be juniors) can apply to the Plan II Honors Program. Prospective transfer students should e-mail Plan II Honors (subject line: Transfer Application Request) for a paper application. Plan II recommends that transfer applicants take Calculus.

Turing Scholars Program in Computer Sciences

Deadline: July 1

Transfer students interested in majoring in computer sciences who aren’t too advanced in their studies can apply to the Turing Scholars program. Beyond submitting an application, students should also submit a description of background and goals, an essay, and a letter of recommendation by July 1 for fall semester admission.

Departmental Honors Programs

Many colleges and schools offer departmental honors for specific majors or programs. Each departmental honors program has its own process and criteria for admission, so you should check with the major of your choice to learn about opportunities that might be available to transfer and upper-division students.
