The University of Texas at Austin

Living on-campus can help simplify your transition to life as a Longhorn. To help you decide if you’re interested in on-campus housing, the university offers tours of Jester, San Jacinto, and Kinsolving residence halls throughout the year. Room rates usually change somewhat from year to year and vary based on options.

Applying to live on campus involves a separate process from applying for admission, and only full-time students are eligible to live in on-campus housing.

You must submit your admissions application before you can apply for housing. To apply for on-campus housing, follow these steps:

Part 1: The Housing Application

Application

  • Once your MyStatus page indicates that you have submitted your ApplyTexas application, you may submit your UT Austin housing application. Transfer applicants do not need to submit everything needed for their admissions application to be complete before applying for housing.
  • The housing application does not guarantee housing.

Processing fee and waivers

  • Pay your non-refundable $50 housing application fee.
  • Online payment is preferred; pay by credit card (MasterCard, American Express, or Discover) or electronic check.
  • If you are approved for an admissions application fee waiver, then your housing application fee will be automatically waived.
Part 2: The Housing Contract

Contract notification

Contract review

  • Print your contract and the Terms & Conditions.
  • Carefully review the contract and the Terms & Conditions.

Date, sign, and return

  • If you agree to the contract Terms & Conditions, accept your contract.
  • If you are 18 or older, you may electronically sign the contract and submit it online.
  • If you are not yet 18, you will need to print the contract, and both you and your guarantor must sign and date the contract and return it to Housing.
  • Contracts can be sent to housing@austin.utexas.edu, faxed to 512-475-6532 or mailed to P.O. Box 7666, Austin, TX 78713. Email or fax is strongly encouraged.
  • Contracts not received by the expiration date are cancelled. If your contract is cancelled, log in to your MyHousing account to reactivate your application or contact the Division of Housing and Food Service at housing@austin.utexas.edu to reactivate your application or with any questions.

Advance payment

  • When you return your signed contract, be sure to satisfy your $300 advance payment, which will be applied to your housing bill.
  • Students who qualify for certain types of financial aid are eligible for a financial aid deferment.
Part 3: Your Preferences

Select your housing preferences

  • After you submit your signed contract and your advance payment, log in to enter your housing preferences, including the residence halls, bath and roommate preference.
  • Submit your preferences for fall/spring by July 1.
Part 4: Your Assignment

Receive your assignment

  • Emails with details about room assignments are sent to students.
  • Fall assignments are sent in mid-July; spring assignments are sent in mid-December.
